Fill an eggshell with paint. Throw it. SPLAT!

Splat, splat, hooray!
Forget dyeing eggs at the kitchen table. This is egg art you do in the backyard with your arm. Save and clean eggshells, fill them with washable paint, seal them, and let the kids hurl them at a big board or canvas. Splat! Pastel pinks, blues and yellows burst across the board, and no two pieces ever come out the same.
The guide covers it all: blowing out and cleaning the shells (a grown-up job), filling and sealing them without a mess, building a simple throwing target, a “mess plan” so cleanup takes ten minutes, and turning the finished board into a keepsake with everyone’s initials and the year.
How the splatter works
Save the shells
Blow out and rinse eggs through a small hole in each end (grown-up job). Save a dozen or two in the weeks before Easter.
Fill & seal
Fill each shell with washable paint using a squeeze bottle or syringe, then seal the hole with tape.
SPLAT!
Set up the board outdoors, line up the throwers, and let the colors fly. Dry it, sign it, hang it.
Before the first throw
- Outdoors only, with old clothes or smocks. Everyone wears safety glasses: shells can fragment.
- Raw egg: grown-ups blow out the eggs, rinse the shells well, and everyone washes hands after handling them.
- Use washable, non-toxic kids’ paint only.
- Throwers stand side by side behind a line; nobody stands near the board while eggs are flying.
The Splatter Station
Most of this is reusable year after year. The eggs come from your fridge.
